Awards 2010

DaVincI Award
For Outstanding Creativity

The Award

The paths we follow on our journeys were once uncharted and unknown—until someone took a bold step in a new direction and paved a way for us to follow. To solve our Challenges, imagination, creativity, originality and courage are required. We honor these individuals and teams who most clearly demonstrate that spirit of adventurous risk in their solutions—those who most creatively traveled to reach truly new and unique destinations. The DaVincI Award is named to honor one of humanity’s greatest creative thinkers, Leonardo Da Vinci.

Criteria

This award is given for having a unique approach to a solution, for risk taking, and/or for outstanding creativity (not skill or talent)

The Awardees

Albuquerque Academy
“The Crescendos”

Challenge C: You’re Gonna Flip!

Citation

The entire performance was outstanding. The story arc drew the
spectators in, with every aspect of the performance being tied to
Japan: music, scenery, puppet, and the ying-yang flip. The
costumes and team-composed music enhanced the unique and
complex performance. The application of the ying and the yang to
two different types of music, at first at odds, and then in harmony,
was thoughtfully combined with a Japanese folk tale. The high
attention to detail was evidenced in the entire performance, and
showed the thoroughness and depth of their creativity, thought, and
planning in creating this outstanding presentation.

Mosaic Academy
“Twisterz”

Instant Challenge

Citation

In this Instant Challenge, the Mosaic Academy Twisterz creatively
used their own bodies to serve as a vital prop to the solution of the
Challenge. They worked together as a team and seamlessly
integrated themselves as part of the presentation. Their unique
approach to the problem demonstrates the team’s ability to wok
together to find effective solutions to the challenges they encounter.

Peñasco Elementary School
“Crane Brain”

Challenge A: DIrect DIposit

Citation

We first saw this team’s implementation of a _____ as a delivery
system when we arrived this morning. Throughout the entire
remainder of the day, we waited in great anticipation to see this team
present. Finally, at the end of the day, after seeing team after team
implement _____s as their solution, this one truly made our day by
being unique and clearly thought out. It was very clear to us that this
team spent a great deal of time and effort on this challenge.

Shiprock High School
“Winterfresh”

Challenge E: Breaking DI News

Citation

In the true spirit of Leonardo, Winterfresh has exhibited what the
creative side of Destination ImagiNation is about. From an original
score composed for the flute to a beautiful rendition of an original
setting for the German National Anthem, Winterfresh was able to
mix many elements into a story about the rise and fall of the Berlin
Wall. It is for their unique mixture of creative elements that we
present Winterfresh with this award.

tomorrow truly possess a flare for the unconventional. Each
approached the challenge with equally unique and inspired designs.
It is for this out-of-the-box thinking that we recognize these teams.

The Award

From its very beginning, Destination ImagiNation has been a community.
