Spirit of Discovery and Imagination Award

From its very beginning, Destination ImagiNation has been a community. The recipients of this award are the ones who go out of their way to help others, making sacrifices not for themselves, but to give something to someone else. We recognize and applaud these members of our community who demonstrate outstanding and extraordinary levels of sportsmanship, volunteerism, and spirit, be they Team Managers, Team members, Officials, or other helpful DI friends and volunteers.

Awarded to:
Edward Gonzales Elementary
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Hit or Myth

"This team had great spirit. They came in enthusiastically. One student said she learned how to count in Greek in one day! There was so much spirit that shone through in their efforts. In addition, they functioned as a team. They used stacks of paper cups and when one student dropped a few cups, the others rushed to help her. They "Charged" in to put up the scenery and props and had their presentation well organized. They brought a "stack" of elementary school chairs which took quite a bit of effort. But they kept smiling and had lots of enthusiasm and great spirit. Their energy showed throughout their performance and they functioned perfectly together as a tsunami!
Great job!
"

Renaissance Award

On our journey we sometimes encounter exceptional travelers who entertain and enlighten us along the way. The Renaissance Award recognizes those among us who demonstrate extraordinary amounts of effort and preparation in their solutions or outstanding skill in engineering, design or performance. While the destination is creativity, these fellow travelers make the journey itself memorable.

Awarded to:
Inez Elementary School
Albuquerque, New Mexico

Obstacles, Of Course!

"Outstanding performance -- costumes and obstacles were impressive and well
integrated with the entire theme. Preparation was very evident, especially
in cheer and set-up. They continuously cheer and followed their vehicle
during the entire presentation."

Magellan Ad Astra Award

ImagiNM encourages team members to try new and different ideas, to explore different skills, to think outside of the box--or to convert the box into something else entirely! Destination ImagiNation offers five different types of Challenges, which provide opportunities to explore a variety of skills and scenarios.

In order to encourage kids to dare to explore, ImagiNM has established the "Magellan Ad Astra" award, to recognize those kids who, over the years, have completed solutions to Challenges in each of the five categories. Named after Ferdinand Magellan, the first person to circumnavigate the globe, it reflects the continued striving to reach to the stars--and even beyond to the galaxies of the Magellanic Clouds.

DaVinci Award for Outstanding Creativity

The paths we follow on our journeys were once uncharted and unknown—until someone took a bold step in a new direction and paved a way for us to follow. To solve our Challenges imagination, creativity, originality and courage are required. We honor these individuals and teams who most clearly demonstrate that spirit of adventurous risk in their solutions—those who most creatively traveled to reach truly new and unique destinations. The DaVinci Award is named to honor one of humanity’s greatest creative thinkers, Leonardo DaVinci.

Awarded to:

Spartans, Los Lunas Middle School
Los Lunas, New Mexico
Chorific!

"The Spartans used PVC pipe in a variety of creative ways, including acting as a blow dryer and also as a suction device. The team used PVC not only to advance the action of the skit, but also to enhance their chosen Sound Themes. Their use of PVC was original, creative, and entertaining. "
